Professor Maceo Montoya was the editor of his first publication in "Huizache"!
Founded in 2011 by celebrated Chicano author Dagoberto Gilb, the magazine was looking for a new home and Professor Montoya saw the opportunity of bringing it to UC Davis.
For its tenth issues, he assembled a wonderful editorial team, including Carribean Fragoza as prose editor, León Salvatierra and Javier O. Huerta as poetry editors, and associate editor Vanessa Díaz, a talented poet who was a student in his first class at UC Davis twelve years ago.
The book artist, Stephanie Sauer, did a beautiful job redesigning the issue, including a special edition dust jacket that pays homage to legendary writer Helena María Viramontes whose novel-in-progress is excerpted in the issue.
