Taller arte del nuevo amanecer

Taller Arte Del Nuevo Amanecer

Taller arte del nuevo amanecer is a collaborative partnership between the Department of Chicana/o Studies at the University of California, Davis and Woodland, a community located 10 miles north of Davis. The Taller offers a fully functioning silkscreen studio, Chicana/o Latina/o Arts exhibition space, and a teaching center for the arts. Through exhibiting, printing, and teaching, the Taller cultivates the cultural and artistic life of the community, promoting an awareness of cultural and human values. The Taller views the arts as an essential element to a community's development and well-being.

The Department of Chicana/o Studies at the University of California, Davis has a history of scholarship and dedication in promoting community health and empowerment. The Taller arte del nuevo amanecer is a continuation of this history, developing an authentic and organic link between UC Davis and the greater Woodland community. The City of Woodland is the most natural partner for the community-based arts instruction and scholarship offered through Chicana/o Studies at UC Davis. The human resources from the community of Woodland and institutional resources from UC Davis collectively promote the role of art and culture as a viable community-building strategy.

TANA is located in a 3,600 square foot warehouse in the heart of Woodland. This bulding has been generously donated for TANA's exclusive use by the Yolo County Housing Authority. TANA's intent is to bridge the gap between the University and the surrounding community, especially the YCHA population which is largely Chicano/Latino.
